Let's Get Real About Fuels & Energy
Demand for fuels/energy is exploding globally. Current methods to produce alternative sustainable/renewable fuels/energy are not scalable and the products are not cost comparable with the fossil equivalent without meaningful subsidies. The intelligent Solution is to “Summitize”.

The Situation
To understand the strategic value of the Summit Solutions for producing SAF and Renewable Diesel & Biogas, it is important first to understand the current situation, as the devil is indeed in the details and “green-washing” has become a fine art that is being practiced ever more broadly. Specifically:
-
The demand for fuels and energy is off the charts, ever increasing and cannot be slowed down or reversed, being driven globally by a huge and growing population, industrialization of the Third World, advanced industrialization of the rest of the world, and electrification and computerization of nearly everything.
-
So, where does the fuels/energy come from to do all this? For the foreseeable future, the answer is mainly Fossils (crude oil, coal and natural gas), and some Nuclear, Hydropower and a trickling of other sources.
-
Accept it or not, the impacts of Climate Change resulting mainly from burning fossil fuels have become an existential threat to Earth’s ecosystems and its inhabitants. Deforestation and expansion of agricultural and animal husbandry to feed the World contribute to and compound and exacerbate the problem.
-
Current methods for producing Green fuels/energy employ mainly waste organic feedstocks. There is only enough such waste in landfills/ponds and elsewhere globally, even if combined together with such waste produced annually, as well as with high oil content field crops (e.g., corn, palm, hemp) and wood mass, to produce on the order of 15% or less of the total quantity of fuels/energy currently consumed annually. This assumes that all of such feedstocks could be collected from diverse locations/sources worldwide, delivered to the processing facilities and cleaned and processed for conversion to fuels/energy at a low cost, which is not going to happen.
-
Methods for prepping the waste feedstocks are primitive and inadequate at best.
-
Current processes/systems to convert the oil extracted from such organic feedstocks to green fuels/energy are essentially methods employed for other purposes (e.g., crude oil refining, ethanol conversion, yeast fermentation, etc.) that have been converted for this purpose; that is, essentially attempts at making better “mousetraps”.
While $Billions have been and are continuing to be spent to develop, construct and implement such Facilities, the reality is that they are not scalable and, without significant subsidies, the fuels/energy they produce are not, and never will be, cost comparable with the fossil equivalents. Rather, the installations that use waste feedstocks and such processing methods are hemorrhaging money, while barely moving the needle to solve the problem.
Alternatively, solar and wind energy deployed at mass scales potentially could result in an environmental disaster of a magnitude and scope that could dwarf the projected global impacts of Climate Change, while attempts to produce Green Hydrogen and Ammonia for fuels/energy, though promising, have major scalability, safety and cost hurdles to be resolved before they even could be considered to be employed commercially or on a broad scale. Similarly, there are commercial scalability and cost issues with geothermal energy and other esoteric methods.
Desperation to do something about Climate Change and monetize the associated economic and financial opportunities is compounded and exacerbated by the evolving and often volatile competing policy and political landscapes, including the scope and cost of carbon credits and tax incentives, as well as land use and Foreign Trade, and whether they actually reduce CO2 emissions – and the ever present and growing need for fuels and energy.
What to do?
Doubling down on and investing more in the current methods in the hope that somehow some day they will become viable, or trying to build yet another better mousetrap, are not the answers.
Rather, Summit went back to “Square 1” and design-engineered the capability to ‘Leapfrog” to Green sustainably, rapidly and economically in a controlled/measured way that works for all stakeholders in the fuels/energy and Climate Change related spaces. This capability is provided by the following:
-
A set of complementary, comprehensive and practical Solutions to enable such a transition from fossil to Green at scale, any scale, and that can be deployed concurrently in multiple locations nearly anywhere, and produce products that are cost comparable with the fossil equivalents (the “Solutions”).
The Solutions for producing Summit’s NuSAFuel and Renewable NuDiesel & NuGas consist of a set of smartly integrated, adaptively synchronized and interoperable processes/systems that mimic Nature and are organized in Modules, as depicted graphically below.
-
Summit’s NuCoal Solution is a practical, economically viable method to produce in situ from existing coal fines & tailings, as well as newly mined coal, a cleaner coal (the “SummitSlurge”), to be used in oil-fired or co-gen power plants in the interim until Summit’s Solutions can be deployed broadly.
The SummitSlurge is intended to be transported and stored in closed tanker vehicles, barges and ships, which retains the original BTU value of the coal and effectively eliminates the adverse environmental impacts associated with transporting, storing and using the traditional lump coal.
-
A 21st Century “Seabees” business model that “Can Do” fast at Scale nearly anywhere, “neutrally” networked supply chains, and the option to supply Summit’s NuFuels/NuEnergy directly to the Customer at or near to where it is needed, or through the Customer’s specified distributors.
